Because of size Wallpaper images are not available for viewing on mobile devices.
Traditionally, wallpapers are used for extra large wall areas (4-10 meters long). A high quality image captured by a full frame digital camera will output normally an original print of 50cm long or 70cm long in the case of an upmarket medium format camera. This original, single, image then has to be “stretched” to cover 5-9 meters. The image has thus to be enlarged with a 1000% to even 1600% to cover a 5-9 meter long project. Needless to say that the visual end result is often disappointing, especially if the viewing area is a short distance of 2-5 meters.
Ideally one would rather prefer to have a near fine art finished product despite the huge wall size of 5-9 meters. I aim to solve this problem by “stitching” multiple overlapping images (3-14 images) digitally together to create a massive, original, single image of 1-3 meters long in order to restrict the final print upsizing to below 400%. The end result is far superior. The file size is massive (1-2 gigabyte) and your printer’s equipment must be able to handle these big files. The photographer has to use specialized equipment (all manual settings on the camera, specialist panorama stitching head on tripod plus specialist stitching software on the computer) to overcome some technical issues.
The wallpapers shown on this website are grouped into Medium and Large sizes. This is merely a guide. In my opinion the Medium size wallpaper images are suitable for 4-5 meter long projects while the Large size wallpaper images are suitable for projects up to 8/9/10 meters, depending on the individual image size. The ratio indicated for each image will also be an indicator how well the image will fit the required wall space. A perfect fit can be obtained by cropping the image to the required size. It is thus rare that we use the full image as first seen. It always needs some cropping (making the image slightly smaller) to match the desired wall space. A Large size wallpaper image can also be used for a smaller project by cropping the image, providing that the visual composition is still acceptable.
